Qualcomm Toq Smartwatch for Android Smartphones

Qualcomm is joing the wearable technology race by launching its version of smartwatch called Toq (pronounced as Talk) starting on December 2 for a price tag of $350. The Qualcomm Toq will only be sold via its own website from that date forward and currently no mention of other dealers or places where interested consumers can buy from. Once it is fully released, the famous chip maker will join the likes of Samsung, Sony, Pebble and other companies which are expected to unveil their smartwatches in the coming months.

Qualcomm is not a common household name since it does not manufacture and market its own gadgets directly to the consumers, until today. Most of Qualcomm's products are chipset and processors that work inside of most gadgets of todays' such as smartphones and tablets.

Unlike Samsung Galaxy Gear that only supports limited Galaxy smartphones, Toq will be compatible with most Android smartphones out there so long that running OS version is at least 4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich. Another thing is, Toq sports it own lightweight OS which means it does not run a specific version of operating system. And like any other smartwatches around, the Toq's purpose is to be a second screen display for our smartphones which will enable users to receive and reject calls and also manage notifications. Smartphone and this Toq will be able to integrate with each other via a bluetooth technology and an Android app which will be available on Google Play soon.

Toq will not sport any physical button and will always remain turned on so the display will always be available to look at. If you are worried about the battery consumption, don't be, as Qualcomm has already anticipated this questions. The display will feature Qualcomm's very own technology called "Mirasol" which is calibrated with low-energy consumption screen display. The company also claims that the smartphone should be able to last for up to five days on a single charge. Like what is also mentioned above, the Toq runs its own OS and that helps the device to not use much of its battery juice.

One other great thing about the Qualcomm Toq smartwatch is it supports wireless charging capability via Qualcomm's WiPower LE Technology. It is charged using its own charging base. See the image below.
