THE ICE DRAGON is George R.R. Martin's First Children's Book Coming Out This October

As hard as it sounds to believe after watching all episodes and seasons of the Game of Thrones and even after reading all the available books of A Song Of Ice and Fire, which the HBO's popular TV series is based on, that George R.R. Martin has a children-friendly book coming out this October titled THE ICE DRAGON. The photo you see here is the official cover illustrated by Luis Royo. The one above is the whole picture of a wrap-around book cover of the said book.

It is not actually a newly-written book by George R.R. Martin as it was originally published in 1980 he is just re-releasing this one with the final and intense book cover posted on this blog entry. There are also more illustrations inside the book. It is also set in the same world of A Song of Ice and Fire minus the sex, nudity and most of all killings. It is a tale about courage and sacrifice.

So how this story took place in the same world of the Game of Thrones? According to Tor.com, Jon Snow recalls it being a bedtime story of Old Nan that would tell the Starks children. Below is the official synopsis of the book.

"Adara liked the winter best of all, for when the world grew cold the ice dragon came. The ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.

Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold. In her fourth year she touched it, and in her fifth year she rode upon its broad, chilled back for the first time. Then, in her seventh year, on a calm summer day, fiery dragons from the North swooped down upon the peaceful farm that was Adara's home. And only a winter child—and the ice dragon who loved her—could save her world from utter destruction."
