The Newly Unveiled Oppo R5 is the Thinnest Smartphone Around

Chinese electronics company Oppo has released two new Android powered smartphones in Singapore and one of those devices is the Oppo R5 which sports an octa-core procecssor, super AMOLED display and most of all it claims to the thinnest smartphone in the world with its 4.85mm thickness, even beating Gionee Elife S5.1 smartphone with 5.1mm profile measurement.

Enclosed in its metal frame are the 5.2-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display, that's a resolution of 1920x1080p with 423 pixels per inch. As mentioned above a 64-bit octa-core processor powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 clocked at 2.1GHz supported by a 2GB of RAM and a default 16GB internal storage, unfortunately microSD card slot is missing in the party for additional storage capacity.

As for its cameras, on the back sits a 13MP snapper equipped with Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor with f/2.0 aperture. This one is capable of recording 4k videos at 30 frames per second. Then on the front side is a 5MP camera with 80-degree wide angle lens, selfie alert. Connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, microSUB 2.0 and 4G LTE. The Oppo R5 runs on the company's ColorOS 2.O user interface based on Android 4.4 Kitkat.

Oppo R5 specs:

- 5.2" Super AMOLED Full HD Display
- 1920x1080 resolution, 423ppi
- 2.1GHz Octa-core Snapdragon 615 Processor
- Adreno 405 GPU
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB Internal storage
- 13MP rear Sony Exmor IMX214 camera with f/2.0 aperture
- 5MP front camera with 80-degree wide angle lens
- Android 4.4 Kitkat
- WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, microUSB 2.0
- 4G LTE,
- 148.9 x 74.5 x 4.85 mm, 155 grams
- 2,000mAh Battery

Since this is an extremely thin smartphone, that means all of its inside components are compressed or placed very close to each other which will lead to heat problems when the device starts to run. Thankfully that will not be a problem at all thanks to Oppo for equipping it with liquid metal like material called phase-change metal as its cooling technology for the R5 smartphone.

There is no 3.5mm audio jack connector, and that's one of the drawbacks of having this slimmest device, but users can still use its wireless O-Music accessory or a microUSB to stream music.  The battery is a bit small at 2,000mAh size but it features a VOOC fast charging technology which Oppo claims to recharge the phone's battery up to 75% full in just 30 minutes.

Coming out in December with a price tag of $499 when converted.
