We know that Microsoft has already acquired mobile business of Nokia and for sure Microsoft will make sure to put their brand name on the future smartphones from the recently purchased company. That was also confirmed by the company previously. Well that day has arrived as Microsoft has officially unveiled a new Lumia smartphone without the Nokia branding, meet the Microsoft Lumia 535.
The Lumia 535 is not a super phone though but sports better features, functions and specs and most of all a very budget-friendly price tag. It comes in two versions one in single SIM and another with Dual SIM slots. It will initially be released in China, Hong Kong and Bangladesh this month for a price tag of less than $140 when converted. Other countries will follow soon.
“Lumia 535 comes with our ‘5x5x5’ proposition,” said Jo Harlow, corporate vice president for Phones at Microsoft. “Innovation should be available to everyone, and we are doing this through the very best integrated Microsoft services included and out of the box, a 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera, and a spacious 5-inch qHD screen — all at an affordable price.”
Looking at the new Lumia 535, the physical design does not really sport new looks compared to the previews Lumia smartphones. It is basically the same Lumia devices we know but without the Nokia name on it. However, compared to other same category Lumias, the 535 has upgraded specs. Right out of the box users will get a 5" qHD IPS display that is equivalent to 960x540 pixel resolution and protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Sporting a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor, the Lumia 535's RAM has now been doubled to 1GB so compatibility issues with other apps and games won't be an issue anymore. 8GB of internal storage will be offered with the device but users will still be able to add more space via microSD card and it supports up to 128GB. Just like any other Lumia smartphones, the Lumia 535 will come in different color selections which are bright green, bright orange, white, dark grey, cyan and black.
Users can also expect Microsoft apps integrated with the device for better experience like the Skype, Office, OneDrive, OneNote, OutLook and even Cortana the Siri-like virtual assistant version of the Windows platform. That also includes a 15GB worth of cloud storage via OneDrive. As for its cameras, Microsoft equipped it with two 5MP shooters front and back. The rear camera now has autofocus and LED flash and the front facing one features a wide angle lens which makes it better for selfie and video calls purposes.
The battery sits under the back panel at 1,905mAh which the company claims to last up to 11 hours of talk time under 2G, 13 hours on 3G network and a maximum of 23days in standby mode. And yes of course it runs Windows Phone 8.1 OS that includes the Lumia Denim latest update.
