Good news to the current owners of Moto X Pure Edition and the 2014 version of Moto G smartphones as Motorola has announced that they have started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the devices. The update is currently available for the phones purchased in the US and since this process has started, definitely more regions will follow receiving the new Lollipop OS.
The Moto X Pure Edition is the unlocked ones and this one runs the stock version of Android Kitkat so it is not surprising to hear that it is already receiving Lollipop update. The second generation Moto G also gets the update and again for the unlocked ones which are the US GSM versions and even the GSM International versions but bought in the US. What about those carrier-released devices? Below is what Motorola said on a blog post...
"We’re working hard with our carrier partners to bring this update to more of our devices as soon as we can,"
That means those who have Moto X and Moto G 2014 versions that are carrier-locked variants will have to wait a little longer. It's really good to hear that Motorola has kept its promise of fast update even though it was recently purchased by Lenovo from Google. I know many users will be happy about it.
Are these only two Motos getting the update? According to Motorola back in October, other devices of them are also to get the Lollipop but they are starting with the current ones. Some of models that were mentioned to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon are the 2013 versions of Moto X and Moto G, Moto E, Moto G 4G LTE, Moto Droid Ultra, Moto Droid Maxx and Moto Droid Mini. If you own one of these, just extend your patience and you will definitely get your turn. : )
