Starmobile held a special event yesterday to officially announce its newest flagship device dubbed Knight X. This device definitely wants to be the best performing device around especially in the local tech scene and yet still bearing the most affordable price for a flagship smartphone. Plus there are a couple of "firsts" in this device that make it stands out among the competitions. We'll see how others like Cherry Mobile and MyPhone are going to answer this via their own future product offerings.
The Starmobile Knight X boasts a massive 5.5" Full HD IPS display or 1920x1080 resolution protected by an unspecified scratch resistant glass. First of the "firsts" is the processor powering the Knight X, this device is the first local smartphone to be equipped with MediaTek MT6595M chip, an octa-core processor with big.LITTLE technology which optimizes performance without the cost of too much battery juice. These eight cores are comprised of 2.0GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A17 and a 1.7GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7. Another first is, if my memory serves me right, this is the first local smartphone again to be equipped with 3GB of RAM. Most local flagships that I have encountered are either with 1GB or 2GB of RAM.
I also would like to think that this is the first, by a local brand, to sport a 32GB internal storage but there are already some other devices that have this such as the Cherry Mobile Omega Infinity, Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2X, and THL 5000 to name a few. Unfortunately the Knight X's internal storage is non-expandable. However it supports USB OTG, which kind of the next alternative for additional storage in case the 32GB is not enough.
Another first on this device is the inclusion of a dual-SIM functionality with dual LTE support. Which means users can use and run two LTE SIM cards from two different telcos at the same time. It's important to note that these SIM slots are one in nano sim and another in micro sim. Behind the Starmobile Knight X sits a 13MP camera with Sony Exmor IMX135 sensor complete with autofocus, BSI, LED flash and f/2.2 aperture, that should be a pretty good camera. On the front is a 5MP shooter with fixed focus. Running the device is Android 4.4 Kitkat OS. See more specs below.
