There is a new smartphone player in the tech scene that just popped out of thin air and they call themselves, xodiom. Yes that is spelled in lower case. Along with the company's appearance, a website and a flagship level smartphone were launched. The first smartphone that it is now offering, which is in pre-order status, sporting very tempting and very hard-to-ignore set of specs plus that's not all as the device is has a very competitive price tag.
The smartphone is simply called, xodiom just like its company name or brand name and sports a massive 5.5-inch display with Super AMOLED technology and Quad-HD 2560x1440 resolution, it is also protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 as scratch and shatter shield. Under the hood are 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM. The xodiom will be available in 32 or 64GB internal storage options and both support microSD card.
For the cameras, there would be a 16MP in the back with autofocus, phase detection and optical image stabilization technologies, which make it a pretty impressive lens. But still its performance will have to be proven in person. Then the front camera is pegged at 5MP. The smartphone will be running Android 5.0 Lollipop with the company's xOS on top. 4G LTE network will also be supported.
Now the other very interesting feature the xodiom smartphone has is its pricing, according to its pre-order page the 32GB will cost $329 ( about Php15k) and the 64GB is for $379 ( about Php17k). Both selections will come in Tuxedo Black color and have a promise shipping date of as early as January 5th, 2015.
So what can you say about the device and the pricing? Can the company really deliver what they are promising for a very low price?
Well according to Phonearena, "We're all probably thinking the same thing here - this thing's too good to be true!". They maybe right about this one but who knows what's the real deal? If am I interested in buying this device I will make sure to wait until the phone is officially released with some reviews already available on the net. But Phonearena said, although they are not launching an investigation or anymthing, it said that they are contacting xodiom and Qualcomm "in hopes of gathering some intel".
It is also worth noting what 9to5Google pointed out, they said that while it is possible to build and sell a phone like this including the pricing like what the One Plus is doing, there are some questionable things they have spotted. For example the company only takes bit coins and wire transfer as mode of payment, "that's a red flag," 9to5Google said. The website also added that there is no other contact information about xodiom aside from the simple contact form found in their website.
I will update this post once we get additional information about it. But I am really hoping that this is a real deal and that it will eventually make its way to the Philippine market with the same offering and very attractive price tag.
