Yesterday Cherry Mobile officially announced it's second generation of Android One offering and the device that was teased since a couple of days ago is now formally called G1. I thought it would be named One G1 or something to follow the previous Cherry Mobile One smartphone they released last year. Cherry Mobile claims this G1 to be the first 64-bit LTE device in the country.
There are a few upgrades we can spot at this G1 smartphone comparing it to the first Android One device from Cherry Mobile. First off are the screen size and the resolution, when the first One was released most of the complaints were these particular aspects of the device. Well now it's been upgraded to an average 5-inch screen size sporting an HD 720p resolution, a lot of us folks will be happy to hear about this one.
Next is for the internals, from MediaTek chip, Cherry Mobile and Google opted for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor here which is clocked at 1.2GHz, you may say it's a bit so yesterday but I think it is better than having the previous MediaTek, plus this CPU is already 64-bit which means it is more optimized for running the latest Android OS and the future releases. Speaking of operating system, running the G1 is of course the most updated which is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and since it is under Android One initiative users are guaranteed to get a direct software update from Google within the next 2 years. Android M is coming really really near.
RAM has been doubled as well together with the internal storage which now comes at 16GB. MicroSD card support is still a reality in this new Cherry Mobile G1 up to another 32GB. The box still says "Free 8GB memory card", this means a 24GB worth of storage right off the bat. This is one of the things I like about Android One devices. You get freebies, mid-ranged and competitive specs, most recent Android OS without additional UI from manufacturer that assures a pure Android experience, direct updates from Google and most of all a very affordable price.
This Cherry Mobile G1 will be available in two weeks time and can be had for just Php5,999.
The upgrades don't actually stop there, the cameras are also enhanced on the G1. Right now we can expect a much higher calibrated shooters like a 13MP rear camera with BSI and dual-LED flash tech and a secondary camera on front with 5MP also comes with the BSI camera feature.
