This particular device from Blackberry has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now. We even have seen a number of leaked photos, hands-on videos and specs of the device. All of them were just rumors, speculations and unconfirmed reports until a couple of days ago. The Canadian company Blackberry has just formally confirmed that they are indeed going to release a full-fledged Android-powered smartphone by the end of the year and it's called the Blackberry Priv. And it's a flagship device so expect high end specs.
This was confirmed at the latest Blackberry's earning report where the CEO John Chen announced it himself and said the Blackberry Priv "combines the best of Blackberry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform." This actually sounds cool, and if this electronics company will be able to deliver this promise, I think it's going to be a success.
However, the CEO did not reveal any details about the smartphone itself but promised to provide more information like specs, features and pricing within the next few weeks. But if we look back at what the rumors are saying, the Priv device is said to be sporting dual-curved edge screens like we saw on Galaxy Edge handsets, a large 5.5-inch QHD (2560x1440) display, 13MP main camera and the company's signature the slider QWERTY keyboard.
Due to this move, many would think that the Canadian company is finally moving to the most used mobile OS in the world. But the company made it clear that they are not totally giving up on BES12 platform in favor of Android. Let's wait until Blackberry fully announces the Priv smartphone and see are actually in there for consumers.
