Another Big-Batt Phone Announced, Huawei Y6 Pro

Is this Huawei's take on the successful Asus Zenfone Max for smartphones-with-larger-battery trend? Huawei just officially unveiled a new installment to its Y6 series of budget-oriented devices, the Y6 Pro and it features a massive 4000mAh battery pack that surely promises the phone to last at least a day of average usage.

The truth is, it is actually not a super brand new device. It was first launched in China a few months back under the Huawei Enjoy 5 moniker. Basically, the Y6 Pro is the international version. Thankfully Huawei is making this device avaialble outside of China, whether this particular model had a success or not in the Chinese market, I don't know. But what matters is it is coming.

This Huawei Y6 Pro boasts a pretty beautiful design. It comes with a metal frame and a nice aesthetics which the company is calling "water-ripple" design. In terms of color options, the Y6 Pro will be available in gold, white or in gray.

Technical specifications include a 5-inch HD IPS display, quad-core processor from Mediatek with 1.3Ghz clocking and a 2GB RAM partner. For internal storage that comes with the device right out of the box, there is a now-standard (I think) 16GB of space. This storage is also expandable via microSD card for up to 128GB.

Camera department is also not disappointing here as the main one is with a 13MP resolution packed with an f/2.0 aperture, while on the front is a wide-angled 5MP selfie shooter. OS wise, the Huawei Y6 Pro is running an Android 5.1 Lollipop with Huawei's Emotion UI 3.1 on top. Dual-SIM and up to LTE network support are also on board with this device.

Huawei Y6 Pro specs:

  • 5-inch HD IPS display
  • 1280 x 720 resolution
  • 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor
  • Mali-T720 GPU

  • 5MP front camera
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop

If you are familiar with the Asus Zenfone Max, which just got released in the Philippines, you can notice that the specs are not that far from each other. The Huawei Y6 Pro sports a 4000mAh battery versus Zenfone Max's 5000mAh, and this makes the Y6 Pro a little thinner and lighter compared to the Max. Hopefully, the pricing is also very attractive. Huawei has yet to announce the international and Philippine pricing for this smartphone as well as its availability date.
