Thanks to the recent 700MHz band aquisition by Globe Telecom and Smart Communications as this will allow the mobile internet speed in the country to have a lot wider range of reach and most of all a lot faster than the current LTE most of us are enjoying to this day.
While not all smartphones currently available on the local market are capable of supporting this new band, we can be assured that from now on, more and more devices will be released here that support this technology especially in the budget phone catgeory.
That being said, local electronics giant MyPhone just recently announced that they are ready for this challenge by soon releasing new phones compatible with this 700MHz frequency of network connectivity. Above was the photo they posted on their Facebook page accompanying the announcement, and from what I remember, these smartphones in the image are unannounced devices as of yet. Additional hints we can find in the image is that MyPhone will definitely launch devices from entry, midrange, to flagship categories, even a pocket WiFi is also on the way. This is pretty exciting.
Change is (really) Coming!
Meanwhile, the two giant telcos Globe and Smart have in fact already fired up a couple of their 700MHz spectrum-equipped towers in the country. Globe has one at the UP Diliman Quezon City already and claims to provide speeds between 60 and 100Mpbs. For Smart, Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan said three towers are already up, one in Tanay, Pasig and Davao each and said to have registed download speed up to 101mbps. Awesome right?!
