A couple of days go there was a rumor suggesting that Niantic Labs, the Pokemon Go game developer, would finally release the hit mobile game in the Southeast Asia including the Philippines in 48 hours. Two days had passed and there was no good news that came, instead, an official statement from Niantic's representatives, Fortyseven Communications, was released regarding the SEA release. And it's not what you wanted to hear.
The statement below was sent to IGN Seautheast Asia earlier today in reponse to the email IGN sent asking for official update on the Pokemon Go local rollout.
"The team is currently heads down working on the game. We do not have any announced plans for countries beyond New Zealand, Australia, US and Germany at the moment." Chris Kramer, Vice President FortySeven Commonications. So that's the real score at the moment about the Pokemon Go Philippine release. I guess for now we are stuck with our Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur as our first catch (for those who have downloaded the apk version). Mine Charmander.
But don't lose heart though, as the press release looks a bit outdated because it does not include other new countries that just received local release of the Pokemon Go like the UK, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. So this could mean that things have already changed since the creation of the email above. Who knows, we might be getting the super-awaited Philippine rollout next week or maybe tomorrow.
