Newly unveiled Razer Phone is an overkill of a device

For a regular, even flagship smartphone, I think the newly announced Razer Phone is an overkill of a device in so many ways. At least on paper. But this makes sense knowing that the Razer Phone is a gaming-focused smartphone aimed at gamers on the go made by a company that is known for making gaming weapons. If you are a follower of this gaming brand Razer, you know that this is their first attempt in penetrating the smartphone scene.

First off, the Razer Phone is equipped with 5.7-inch Quad HD display with 120Hz Sharp IGZO Ultramotion display. This technology which is usually found on gaming monitors, allows the device's display from suffering from screen tearing even in heavy tasks. In other words, the scrolling and gaming experience will be extremely smooth compared to typical Android smartphones around in terms of frame rates.

Unfortunately, this first smartphone by Razer does not sport the currently trending 18:9 aspect ratio display. You can definitely see how wide those upper and lower bezels are. But these panels have a very good reason to be wider than they should, that's because they house the dual front facing stereo speakers, something we rarely see in mainstream smartphones. These are not just ordinary speaker though, Razer said they are powered by Dolby Atmos audio technology and are certified by THX. These guarantee users a true cinematic audio experience whether watching videos, listening to music, or playing games. Sadly, there is no 3.5mm audio jack to be found on the phone.

Being a gaming device, Razer stuffed a massive 4000mAh  inside the Phone. The company promises this smartphone to provide up to 12.5 hours of video playback, 7 hours of gaming, and 63.5 hours of music playback. For charging this large of a battery, it is great to know that this device is equipped with the latest and more improved Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+ technology. For now, the Razer Phone is running on vanilla Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with future Android 8.0 Oreo update in the pipeline.

On the camera side, the Razer Phone comes dual rear setup. There is a 12MP primary rear camera with f/1.75 and a secondary 13MP with f/2.6 telephoto lens. Dual LED flash are also found here. On the front is an 8MP shooter with f/2.0 snapper.
