It's Official! Apple Announces iPhone 5

On September 12, 2012 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in California, Apple announced the most anticipated smartphone of the year, the iPhone 5. The phone, according to the rumors is really bigger than its predecessors with a retina display of 4-inches diagonally but they claim it is thinner and 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S. Other features it boasts is the battery life that will last up to 8 hours (talk time) under 3g or LTE and up to 10 hours through WiFi.

Below is the image of iPhone 5 posted by @AppleNews. Now if you have been reading rumors and seeing leaked photos about this new Apple phone, you might have already noticed that everything that was reported was accurate. To me, like what I usually say whenever I stumbled upon an unconfirmed news about this new iPhone before, I always say, "this looks a lot like iPhone 4S, just a bigger/longer-screened one" and it is.

This iPhone 5 will be run by an A6 processor chip which sports twice the fun than the A5 in iPhone 4S. A retina display is also part of the show. Are you excited now?

At the event, the iPhone maker also confirmed that AT&T, Sprint and Verizon will be their official partner-carrier in bringing the iPhone 5 to the crowd in the US. T-Mobile was not mentioned, as per ForbesTech tweet "T-mobile does not have LTE anyway."

In the Philippines, prior to the announcement of this newest smartphone, leading carriers like Smart Telecommunications and Globe Telecom have been sharing tweets and articles about the upcoming iOS device through their social media accounts. So that means, like the iPhone 4S, both network will likely to carry the iPhone 5.

Pricing of iPhone 5 in the US will be the same as the 4S's when it was released starting at $199 for a 16GB variant of course with a postpaid plan. Let us wait for additional updates on this handset especially for Philippine-related information like, pricing, providers, variants, availability dates etc.
