Movies I Enjoyed Watching in 2012

Apart from technology-related news such as cool gadgets and sleek devices updates, I also love watching movies and get myself updated with the latest happenings in the industry especially those ones I am anticipating to see in the big screens. 2012 was a great year for me when we talk about movies that were released here and abroad. Many of the motion pictures that were shown in the Philippines were the ones I like, there were some I was able to see in theaters and there were some I was unfortunate to find time catching up. Below is the list of the movies I enjoyed watching in 2012.

The Avengers: If there was one movie in 2012 that I enjoyed the most, like many other movie goers, that would be the Marvel ensemble heroes The Avengers. This was my first time seeing superheroes Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, BlackWidow, Hawkeye and the villain Loki in one movie on the big screen. This was a big success especially in box office earnings and the selection of Joss Whedon as the director for this move was a very good move as he himself is a fan of the said heroes. With the success people inside and outside of the movie market saw in this kind of film, it is most likely not far from the future to see Justice League heroes next saving the world in our favorite cinema houses. With the Dark Knight trilogy that was just completed this year and Man of Steel is set to fly again this 2013,  to me this is some sort of hope that a Justice League live action film is coming our way. The Avengers is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Underworld: The Awakening: Starred by Kate Beckinsale reprising her role as Selene. This is the fourth installment in the Underworld movie series. I liked this Underworld sequel but not as much as I did with the previous one which is the Rise of the Lycans by Michael Sheen as Lucian the leader of the Lycans and with his love interest Sonja played by Rhona Mitra. Underworld: The Awakening is distributed by Screen Gems released in January 2012 with a running time of only 88 minutes. I tend to see movies first with running time of more than 100 minutes.

Wrath of the Titans: A sequel to the Clash of the Titans that was released in 2010. Wrath of the Titans also stars Sam Worthington as Perseus the son of Zeus. The whole movie was a real epic to me especially seeing how they made Kronos in the flesh, he is very scary in this one and seeing Liam Neeson (Bryan Mills in Taken) as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes(Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter) as Hades in one film is also a plus. I don't know why but I really love seeing big actors from big movies coming together in single movies just like the Forbidden Kingdom of Jackie Chan and Jet Li and the Expendables 1 and 2. I hope to more of these two films.

The Expendables 2: With the addition of Liam Hemsworth, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme plus some more serious plot and actions, this second Expendables movie is better than the first one. Now I can't wait to see the third Expendables movie which according to reports Stallone confirmed the attachment of Nicolas Cage to the film but later denied the confirmation as per post on Wikipedia page of the movie says the team behind Expendables is eyeing actors like Harrison Ford, Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal, Wesley Snipes and Clint Eastwood. It's going to be a bigbang of stars if all of those names will be included.

Snow White and the Huntsman: I enjoyed seeing the Snow White story in a different approach and made it more suitable for growing Disney or Snow White fans out there rather than making it as immortal as the classic Snow White with the Seven Dwarves animated one that made famous by Walt Disney. I think this was the first I saw Chris Hemsworth using an axe instead of the Hammer of Thor and outside of Thor movies. I know Chris has other non-superhero or fantasy movies which I have not seen any of them as of yet.  Kristen Stewart's performance is not that good, I still see Bella in her face in this movie instead of Snow White. If a sequel will be approved I would like to see other star instead of Stewart.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter: Directed and co-produced by Tim Burton starring Benjamin Walker as the axes swinging vampire slayer Abraham Lincoln. It feels so brand new seeing a protagonist using an axe to kill its enemies with some style and not just a simple or normal swing or hit. I would like to see more of this kind.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: This was one of my most anticipated movies in 2012 and like the previous Lord of the Rings movies, this movie is not a disappointment and it's really worth the wait. Good thing it's still Peter Jackson who directed this film, the "touch" did not change and still the same as what I saw in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This film was originally planned to be a single film and later decided to split it in three installments namely An Unexpected Journey ( December 2012), The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and  There and Back Again (2014) so that means more of Middle Earth encounters and more adventures to follow, a long journey I should say.

El Presidente: The General Emilio Aguinaldo Story and the First Philippine Republic: Of course last but not the least is our very own El Presidente a Scenema Concept International and Viva Films entry to the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival. The film's running time is quite long almost the same as The Hobbit's but like what I said in my previous post, it was able to deliver what I was expecting. This is another world-class Pinoy made movie I would recommend everybody to watch.
