Disney Confirms J.J. Abrams Will Direct Star Wars Episode VII

I have been following latest development on thiese Star Wars related news since the film company behind it (Lucasfilm) was acquired by Disney last year. The same day Disney and Lucasfilm informed the public of the
acquisition, the two giants also unveiled another Star Wars trilogy is coming our way which would be Episodes VII, VIII and IX.

Right after the announcements, lots of rumors came out that had to do with the movie itself or with its stars. Such rumors were if Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) would be reprising their characters as reports suggest the next Star Wars would pick up 30 year after the events in Episode VI. Another rumor was about the next director of these new motion pictures. A number of names were mention such as Zack Snyder, Guillermo Del Toro and J.J. Abrams. It's Abrams' name was always in the news to most likely to direct the direct the movie. He is the same director behind the cameras of Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Super 8 and others.

Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy, according to reports, had been courting Abrams to accept the directing offer. And most recently, via a blog post on Star Wars official website, Lucasfilm confirmed that J.J. Abrams will officialy direct the next Star Wars episode which is due for release in 2015.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy stated in the post that "It's very exciting to have J.J. aboard leading the charge as we set off to make new Star Wars movie." She also went on saying Abrams is "The perfect director
to helm this. Beyond having such great instincts as a filmmaker, he has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essenbe of the Star Wars experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgetable motion picture."
