Nokia Asha 501 Announced, Sports Asha OS

Even in the peak of Google's Android and Apple's iOS mobile operating systems success both in the tablet and smartphone industry, Nokia aside from releasing their Windows Phone 8 versions of smartphones also just announced its new Asha phone that will offer Nokia's new mobile operating system. It's called Asha OS and the first phone to have it is the Nokia Asha 501. And yes it is a smartphone.

Asha 501 is a very wallet-friendly phone as the Finnish company priced the phone for around $99 or about Php4000 (before tax) in the Philippine peso. The 3.5-inch multi-touch screen device comes with wi-fi and bluetooth connectivity features, on the back it has a 3.2-megapixel camera but with no front once counterpart. Out of the box Asha will have 128MB internal memory plus a 4GB memory card which can also be expanded to up to 32GB via microSD card. One of the best things this new entry smartphone is its battery life which Nokia claims can last up to 48 days (1200mAh) on standby mode and up to 17 hours of talk time in one charge.

As we can see in the image above, Nokia Asha 501 will be available in bright red, bright green, cyan, yellow, white and black.

Now since this phone falls under smartphone category, it means that it should be have its own-supported apps, well we do not need to worry as according to, CNN, eBuddy, ESPN, Facebook Foursquare, Line, LinkedIn, The Weather Channel and Twitter are some of the apps that are already available for the Asha OS. Nokia also added that apps that have been created and will be created will be able to run on the future Asha devices.

Nokia said on its blog post, updated their Nokia Express browser which uses cloud-compression technology to reduce the data downloaded by up to 90% which in turn will make the browsing experience faster and  cheaper when a user is online.
