Blackberry Announces 9720 Smartphone Meant to "Spark a Conversation"

The Canadian tech company Blackberry quietly announced the new Blackberry 9720 which is meant to spark or ignite a conversation as it sports features that are more of sharing and communicating with friends and loved ones.

Although current smartphones of Blackberry run on their latest mobile operating system called BB10, the 9720 will be on a previous yet updated BB OS 7.1. However it promises users to take their handset expeience to the next level as the phone comes with popular social networking apps. According to, the reason why Blackberry decided to use an old BB OS on this one is because the BB10 is still being outsold by BB OS 7 devices.

The Blackberry 9720 sports the company's popular QWERTY keyboad paired with a 2.7-inch touch-enabled screen calibrated with 480x360 resolution. The machine will be run by a single 806MHz processor with a 512MB of RAM. On the back panel, you will see a 5MP camera with LED flash, no front camera though, at least according to the reports. For storage options, the BB 9720 will come with a 512MB built-in storage space but it will support microSD card. Also the smartphone supports Wifi connectivity. And all of those will be supported by a 1,450mAh battery. The new BB smartphone will be available is black, white, blue, pink and purple. Release date? 9720 will be released in the coming months in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

Based on its technical specs, it is definitely not something that most will look forward to to have but definitely great to upgrade to from using a feature phones or simply getting away from the crowded iOS and Android universe and yet still be able to connect with friends via media that most people love such as Facebook and Twitter.
