Motorola Moto G Announced for Only $179 Off Contract

Motorola has just announced the Moto G Android smartphone for only a price of $179 without being attached to any contract. Moto G is a low-cost entry-level smartphone which aims for people who like to have a decent smartphone at a lower price point without compromising much of the specs and features and without the need to break a piggy bank.

One thing you will notice on the Moto G and Moto X. Yes, that's right they look identical to each other. You can barely notice their physical differences unless to put them side by side. You see there is the 4.5-inch LCD TFT display with 1280x720p screen resolution, 329ppi. The processor is clocked at 1.2GHz quad-core using Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, 1GB of RAM is also with the MOTO G.  As for cameras, you will find a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a front facing one at 1.3MP. And the battery of 2,070mAh which is average enough for its size and machines.

The back plate of the Moto G is removable allowing users to change the look and feel of the cover using interchangeable Motorola Shells, that's what the company calls them. Those shells are available in blue, teal, yellow, red, white, purple, and black. Though the back panel is removable, the battery is not. Motorola did a good job on introducing Motorola shells for the Moto G which means users can change it anytime they want. Unlike, on Moto X, customization is also an option but only upon placing the order.

The Moto G does not boast most of powerful features found in its high-end counterpart, Moto X, such as touchless control, Quick Capture and Active Notifications and that is not actually a surprise considering the given asking price for the device. To me, that is very fine and it looks much cleaner to me without those features. This new Moto smartphone will initially be shipped out with an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but the company promises a 4.4 Kitkat update will be rolled out in the coming weeks. It also does not support LTE and microSD card for additional space option. So far those are the downturns of this handset.

As of today, the Moto G is already available in parts of Europe and Brazil, followed by the rest of Europe, Latin America, Canada and some parts of Asia. Is Philippines included? No one knows yet. In the US, availability will be in January 2014 and maybe because Motorola wants the phone debuts in the US with the Kitkat already running in the device. And oh, by the way that $179 price is for an 8GB version while the 16GB option is for $199. Still very affordable right? If only iPhone 5c arrived in the market with that price and is also off contract, then many consumers would be a lot happier and not disappointed. How much an iPhone 5C without a contract? The last time I checked, starting price was at $549.

  1. I think I am gonna buy this Moto G when it comes out here in the Philippines and hopefully it will not be priced twice as its announced price. I know tax is not included with the $179 tag, but this is a great phone and this really suits my needs as a smartphone user.
