Cherry Mobile Announces Its First Octa-core Smartphone, Cosmos Z2

Cherry Mobile does not want to be left behind when it comes to current trending in the local competition as the company just unveiled its own octa-core powered smartphone, CM introduces the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2. The company followed Starmobile in releasing this kind of smartphone powered by a 1.7GHz Mediatek octa-core processor, Starmobile also introduced the Diamond X1 this January which since then has gathered much attention.

Starting February 5, this Cosmos Z2 will be available for purchase at SM City North EDSA for a suggested retail price of Php12,999. So what other things do you get out of this device apart from its eight-core processor?

First is this device sports a 5-inch Full HD display. That's 1920x1080 resolution with ppi equivalent to 440. 2GB of RAM. 16GB Internal storage, can be expanded via microSD card up to 64GB. 18MP rear camera with BSI technology and LED Flash and 8MP front facing camera with BSI. Currently it will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean but Cherry Mobile promises and over-the-air update to Android 4.4 Kitkat sometime in March. And a 2,000mAh battery. This is also a dual-SIM smartphone.

If there are two things I like about the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2, that would be its Full HD 1080p display. That is absolutely clearer than Starmobile Diamond X1's HD 720p display. Second is that it can be upgraded to Android 4.4 Kitkat come March which I think rarely happens on locally branded smartphones. And of course, if there are two features I don't like about this phone, those are going to be the size of the display which is only 5 inches, smaller than Diamond X1's 6 inches. And then the battery which is only 2,000mAh. I'd would prefer it to be atleast 2.500mAh.

Talking about price tags, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 is the steal, Php12,999 while Diamond X1 is for Php13,990.  Now I let's see if MyPhone is also cooking up their own octa-core smartphone.
