The LG G2 Mini is Not Really That Small

The original LG G2 that was unveiled and released last year is soon to have its Mini version, you guess the name. You're right LG G2 Mini. It bears the name mini but it is really not that small in terms of screen size. The G2 Android smartphone which also comes in red and in gold color selections measures 5.2 inches across its full HD 1080p IPS display. The G2 Mini has 4.7-inch qHD IPS 960x540 display.

Unlike what Sony did with its Xperia Z1 Compact, where the specs from the smartphone's big brother were also brought to the Z1 Compact, LG G2 is really the "mini" version of the G2 as most of the technical specifications here were also slimmed down and that might be because the company targets consumers who are looking for budget-friendly smartphones. But I do not think that the phone's performance will be affected by this action. The Korean company promises to formally announce the device at the Mobile World Congress 2014 later this month in Barcelona which bloggers and tech enthusiasts will most likely have a chance to play with the device at the event, and when that happens we will know if the smartphone is still worth buying when budget has to be considered. Let us also take note that the price was not revealed yet as of this time.

“The G2 mini is all about bringing the best user experience of the G2 to a more compact, mid-tier device, giving millions of customers the opportunity to benefit from the LG premium experience,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “This device offers the perfect balance of modern design and practical UX in a compact package without compromising performance.” Park added.

The device will come in 3 different configurations (processors), there will be an LTE, 3G and LATAM (Latin America) LTE variants. For LTE and 3G versions, these will have 1.2GHz quad-core processors powered by Qualcomm MSM8926 and Qualcomm MSM8226 respectively, while the LATAM LTE version will have 1.7GHz Quad-core Nvidia Tegra 4i chip. 1GB RAM, 8GB on board storage (expandable via microSD card), 8MP rear camera with front 1.3MP one, 2,440mAh battery and Google's latest Android 4.4 Kitkat. The LG G2 will begin its global roll out in March.
