Starmobile UP, 5-inch Quad-core Smartphone for Php4,990, a MyPhone Rio Killer?

Folks over at spotted a new product from Starmobile's official website which seems to be their answer to MyPhone Rio's popularity and success. It is a 5 incher smartphone with quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, 1GB of RAM and an Android 4.4 Kitkat OS for only Php4,990. Most of its specs are very similar to the MyPhone Rio but it still some other features that make it ahead of the Rio and other smartphones in the same price range.

First is the Starmobile Up is already powered by Android 4.4 Kitkat vs the MyPhone Rio's Android Jellybean, which means no need to hope and wait if there would be an OTA OS update. Another thing is it has a Double Tap feature which means users can wake and sleep the Up by just double tapping the screen and that is something lacking from the Rio. Multipoint Gestures allows users to use up to 3 fingers at a time for on-screen commands and then the Call and Text Filtering feature. There is just one feature this Up is not offering that we can have from the Rio and that is the display, Unbox says it only features a FWVGA display with only 854x480 resolution. MyPhone Rio has IPS HD Display at 1080x720 resolution. But if that is not a big deal for you, then the Starmobile Up is already a still with the price tag of only Php4,990.
