Google to Shut Down Social Network, Orkut

More than 10 years ago Google launched their very first foray in the social media race with Orkut the same year the Facebook was launched, and today the search giant company has announced through a blog post that they will be shutting down the website on September 30.

"Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities springing up in every corner of the world. Because the growth of these communities has outpaced Orkut's growth, we've decided to bid Orkut farewell (or, tchau). We'll be focusing our energy and resources on making these other social platforms as amazing as possible for everyone who uses them." Google said.

If you have an account on Orkut and some important data that you want to keep, you may use Google Takeout which will be available until September 2016.
