The New Hammer-wielder Marvel Superhero THOR is Now a Woman

The Thor we know for a while has just gotten a major character update, according to the executive series writer the new worthy of Mjolnir's power is a woman. The first issue will be released this coming October. Marvel said that the new series will be written by Jason Aaron and with art by Russel Dauterman and that the Thor lead character will be re-cast as a female superheroine. Marvel broke the news on ABC's The View.

“This is not She-Thor,” Aaron said. “This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.” -Jason Aaron, series writer.
“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” said Marvel editor Wil Moss. “The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy.” -Wil Moss, Marvel editor.

Marvel dubbed this change as " the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s "big three" – Captain American, Iron Man and Thor", according to the official press release.

If you have been following Thor in the Marvel Comics platform, you will know this is not the first time that there is a different wielder of the power of the hammer called Mjolnir. According to a post on Collider, Thor's hammer was once lifted by Wonder Woman, the first woman to wield the power of Thor, during the crossover between DC and Marvel. Then a post on The Verge says that Beta-Ray Bill and Captain America also had that opportunity to be worthy of the hammer. Thor was once also a frog.

There are a lot of things going on in the comics universe of our beloved superheroes both DC and Marvel and I hope to see all these big changes and events in the silver screen one day.
