Sony's New Flagship Xperia Z4 just got Announced in Japan
Sony has just announced its new flagship smartphone in its home country of Japan today. I am a bit surprised this time as Sony doesn't seem to be as hyper as the previous years' announcement of their flagship devices. Unveiling of marquee devices like this one usually being held at a big event with members of the media and with formal invites being sent prior to the event, but this time Sony decided to make it a low-profiled announcement.
The Sony Xperia Z4 features top of the line specs and features with some let downs at least. I like the fact that the device is powered by a 64-bit octa-core processor with a Snapdragon 810 SoC and massive 3GB of RAM however it becomes less appealing to me knowing that it does not sport Quad HD display like the once from LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S6 devices, no fingerprint nor all-metal chassis.
Aside from the display the rest of the specs are powerful than most smartphones around. There's the latest Android 5.0 lollipop running the phone, cameras are pegged at 20.7MP for the rear one and a 5.1MP front facing camera equipped with wide-angle lens for much better selfie pictures. Just like the previous Xperia Zs, the Z4 is also IP6X certified for dust resistance, and IPX8 certified for water resistance. That still means that the Z4 is capable of going under the water as deep as nearly 5 feet for up to 30 minutes.
It also managed to be slimmer than 7mm barrier, coming in at just 6.9mm and weighing only 144 grams including the massive 2,930mAh battery pack that is encased in a glass-and-aluminum body. This doesn't just the handset thinner but also lighter than the Xperia Z3.
Although many of the Xperia fans have waited for this official announcement there is still one more reason to keep on being patient as Sony said that the Z4 will be first available this Summer in Japan with no apparent details for its pricing and international release. But at least the new flagship is now official. And yes I have a feeling that this will not be exclusive to the Japanese market.
Sony Xperia Z4 specs:
- 5.2" Full HD LCD display
- 1920 x 1080 resolution
- 2GHz octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB internal storage
- Supports microSD card up to 128GB
- 20.7MP rear camera
- 5.1MP front camera with wide angle lens
- Android 5.0 Lollipop
- Water and Dust Resistant
- 146 x 72 x 6.9mm
- 144 grams
- White, Black, Copper and Aqua Green
- 2,930mAh battery
Aside from unusual quiet announcement, Sony did even not bother to bring the Z4's looks from its predecessor like the Z3. To me they are almost identical to each other in physical appearance. But of course it's not all about how the phone looks, although it is part of the selling points what matters most is the actual performance of the device which by looking at the specs is capable of delivering to the crowd.
