Smart and PNP Team up for "Text BATO" Campaign

Ordinary citizens like you and me will now have the ability to report crime incidents and law enforcement concerns from the comfort of our own cellphones. Thanks to PLDT, Smart and PNP (Philippine National Police)'s collaboration, Text Bato platform has just been officially launched nationwide.

How to send message or report to Text Bato hotline

Smart users who would like to report an incident to the police through this platform, all they have to do is text BATO (space) followed by their message or report to 7444-2286. Please note that there is Php1.00 charge to be deducted from your regular load.

You will know that your report has been received and acknowledged when you receive a textback confirmation message from a unique sender name under PNPBATO. The PNP will then verify the report to determine the appropriate course of action to take. Smart and PNP assure that confidentiality of the report will be observed especially the citizen's information.

"Aside from enabling this service, we also pledge to support the PNP in protecting the privacy of participating subscribers and in ensuring the confidentiality of each message transmitted to the text hotline," said Ramon Isberto, PLDT and Smart Spokesman and Public Affairs Head.

PLDT and Smart even provided a Text Bato platform and internet connectivity to PNP where all of these reports will be routed to and PNP officials will have access to 24/7. In addition to this, the telecommunications company also provided a dedicated wireless device to the PNP Chief of Police Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa for him to personally see these reports and even personally and directly respond to senders.

Though this public service, we can now report concerns that the we have or witness that we think only Philippine police can help us from anywhere we are and from whatever of the day. I would suggest you to save the hotline number to your smartphone and name is as Text Bato or Bato Hotline as no one knows if and when we are gonna be needing this service.
