Alaska Holds Ginang Alaska 2016 in Davao City, 29 More Cities to Follow

People's Park, one of the iconic landmarks in Davao City, earlier today was turned into an event full of fun, prizes, friends and family member as Alaska Milk Corporation held its first 2016 Alaska-mazing Moms program in search of the next Ginang Alaska mommies for the year.

For the uninitiated like me, the search for Ginang Alaska actually started 13 years ago or in 2003 where it was first called as "Alaska Ginang Reyna ng Santacruzan" and as you may have already guessed, the structure of the program was inspired by the Santacruzan tradition in the Philippines, then it was later changed to just Ginang Alaska. Back then only 9 cities were covered by this event, and over time as the campaign progressed and more and more mothers became aware and interested in this, it has been expanded to cover up to 30 cities nationwide and that includes our beloved city of Davao.

This year, Ginang Alaska is returning as Alaska-mazing Moms 2016 and is looking for mothers between 21 and 35 years old and legally married with at least 1 child. If you are a mother that is within the first two requirements in addition to being physically fit and of good moral standing in your local community, have talent and know how to cook, then you can join and be the next Alaska-mazing Mom of the year and bring home cash, prizes, and Alaska-sponsored project for your barangay.

This year's Alaska-mazing Moms kicked off in Davao City, then will be followed by three more other neighboring cities in the region namely Digos, Tagum and Panabo. You can check out all the participating cities and corresponding event dates here and see how you can join and be the next Alaska-Mazing Moms in your city.

The event started early in the morning of Saturday, October 22th at People's Park with a cook off section between the candidates of 15 moms where they prepared their signature breakfast meals using Alaska products.

Part of the activity was Zumba dancing and Alaska Milk team was not just joined by these amazing moms but also with their friends and families who supported them all throughout the competition. Good thing is a lot of Davaoenos really love doing Zumba and that translates to hundreds of participants as you can see in the images below.

Meriam Perz (1st Runner up)
Ailene Caracol (Grand Winner)

In addition to these winners and their respective winnings, a lot of prizes were also given away at the event, such as flat iron, electric fan, sacks of rice and many others.

And to cap off this successful Alaska-Mazing Moms 2016 Davao leg, we had an opportunity to talk with people from Alaska Milk Corporation over lunch at Pidok's resto near the People's Park. Here we discussed about this campaign, how it's doing in different parts of the country, and some Q&As on the products.

As mentioned above, this was the very first Alaska-Mazing Moms event here in Davao city and there are other 29 more cities to follow until December 11th. To find out if your city or municipality is one of those, how to join and check out the overall mechanics of the contest, you may visit Ginang Alaska Facebook page which you can see the link below or simply head to the link I provided above.
