Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) Unboxing

My wife applied for a postpaid plan from Globe Telecom with a Samsung Galaxy J7 2016 smartphone in the package. So since this is one of the new devices being offered by Samsung in the local market and I have not had the opportunity to try and unbox this device here at DugomPinoy blog before, I took advantage of the short time I had with this device and uboxed it myself. Thanks to the wife. hehehe.

Samsung Philippines officially launched this smartphone in the local market in March of the year. It may be already a bit late, but you know what they say, better late than never. So it is here.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 is a mid-range smartphone that offers decent set of specs, however, I think this device is a bit pricey at Php14,990 as its SRP. There are other smartphones from other brands that are only offered for less than Php10,000 with almost the same or even higher specs than this Samsung phone. But you know, it is Samsung, not only that they have been in the business for how many years now, they are also one of the most trusted smartphone manufacturers globally. That being said, we can really be sure that this phone will offer not just powerful performance but also durability for a long time.

What's in the box

Besides the Galaxy J7 itself, the package also comes with generic Samsung earphones, USB-to-MicroUSB cable for charging the device and for file transfers. There is also the wall charger, and paper works being the quick user guide and warranty.

Surprisingly though, in the box is also a 32GB microSD card with an SD card reader. This means, in addition to the 16GB onboard storage, there is also a free 32GB card or a total of 48GB storage right out of the box. This is something we don't see everyday in other smartphone brands. So that's a good job coming from Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 2016

The Samsung Galaxy J7 here sports a huge 5.5-inch HD display with Super AMOLED display, this type of display coming from Samsung gives users a much better viewing experience as the display quality provides more color accuracy than most of the devices in the same range. I just noticed it right now that the image above shows the device already with a screen protector on, but no, the package does not come with this particular freebie. My wife really wants her new phones to have screen protector as soon as she gets them as possible no matter how tough the glass in on a device is. I am not really sure if this has Gorilla Glass protection, Samsung never said it is, and based on how it looks, it really does not have one. So if you are planning to buy one, you better include screen protector or tempered glass in your shopping list.

More on the front panel are the 5MP secondary camera with LED flash and alongside it. Down below is the physical home button that does not have fingerprint scanner and sitting on its left and right side are the capacitive multi-task and back buttons.

Turning it around will reveal you the brushed and metallic finish of the back cover. It is plastic though but nicely built to give a feel that you are touching a metal back surface which I actually liked. But the rim of the smartphone is really a metal that adds more premium feel and look to it. Additionally, this is where we can find the 13MP rear camera equipped with f/1.9 aperture and LED flash and autofocus system. And of course the speaker grille and the Samsung branding.

I am happy to realize that the three of my most used buttons are located just in the place where I prefer them to be, on the sides. Volume rocker and power key is what I am talking about here. This gives me easy access to wake and lock the phone using my thumb while holding the phone single-handedly and then adjust the volume using either my index or middle finger.

Software and Operating System

Thankfully, the Samsung Galaxy J7 is already running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow mobile operating system with Samsung's custom user interface on top. Based on my limited time with the device, I can really say that the interface really works lightning fast, thanks to the eight-core Snapdragon 617 processor and quite roomy 2GB of RAM. My wife has been using this device for weeks now and so far I have not heard any complaints from her about this phone, and I think that's a good news.

This 2016 version of the Galaxy J7 has most of the connectivity functions we look for in a smartphones such as NFC, LTE, dual-SIM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS to name a few.
