Smart Communications Inc Brings More LTE Devices to Davao

It has been established, especially in Davao region, that Smart Communications and PLDT have been very busy this past couple of months doing system and network enhancements as well as activating additional cell towers as part of their on-going campaign to bring the fastest mobile internet connectivity possible. In addition to this in-network upgrades, Smart is also making sure that more and more devices supporting LTE connectivity are available to the public.

How can you possibly enjoy Smart's Faster LTE, if you don't have the right device in your hand? A simple question that many of us usually don't realize until we really understand at least the basics of how the system works. A short answer is by simply using an LTE capable smartphone, and although most smartphones are now LTE ready, there are still a few that are not especially in the budget category. And that's one of the challenges that Smart is also trying to resolve, by not just bringing LTE devices in the scene, but also offering budget-friendly ones with full LTE functionality.

Complementing its network improvement efforts in Davao, Smart Communications recently partnered with device manufacturers to introduce a variety of LTE handsets that will enable locals to enjoy better mobile internet experience.

In the recent Connected Davao event simultaneously held in SM Lanang Premier, NCCC Mall, and GMall Davao, mallgoers got first dibs on affordable, mid-range, and premium LTE devices. One of the featured handsets at the event was the O+ Presto 700 LTE which is ready to use the 700MHz band for LTE, available for just Php2,188 with a 300 prepaid card load purchase plus a ton of free data and load rebates for one year. You can read more about this particular offer on this separate blog post.

Other LTE devices snapped up were from Samsung, Alcatel, Asus, Huawei, Lenovo, Starmobile, OPPO, and Apple.

As mentioned above, Smart is boosting LTE coverage in Davao city and surrounding municipalities by tripling its LTE-capable sites by the end of the year. Together with its parent company PLDT, this is part of Smart's three-year plan to cover up to 95% of the country's cities and municipalities with LTE before year 2018 ends. And as has also been mentioned in my previous posts, Smart has already fired up eight 700MHz sites across the Philippines where five of them are in Davao City alone. 700MHz frequency is the newly acquired spectrum by Smart and its coverage is wider than other existing bandwidths that even in-door signals are enhanced.

"Davao City continues to grow in importance as a major trade, enterprise, and tourism hub in Mindanao. In line with this, we are expanding the capacity and coverage of out network here, particularly for mobile data," said Ramon Isberto, Head of Public Affairs at PLDT and Smart.

Apart from featuring the much faster LTE connectivity and these LTE ready devices at the Connected Davao event last week, Smart also featured affordable data subscription services such as the Smart GigaSurf 50. This particular data bundle provides subscribers 1GB of data allocation plus another 300MB free data to be used with other apps like iFlix, YouTube, SnapChat and more, all for three days.

"We have multipronged approach to giving Davaoenos a better mobile internet experience. First, we are improving our network. Second, we are making available more LTE devices so they could enjoy the benefits of the enhanced network. Third, we are offering value-packed data subscriptions," Isberto said.

"On top of these, we deployed a customer education team at the Connected Davao event to answer subscribers' questions on mobile data, and give tips on how to maximize their internet experience," he added.
