NIkon's KeyMission Action Camera Range Now in the Philippines

Initially announced at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Nikon's first line of action cameras are now in the Philippine market. The local launch was formally done through a KeyMission Experience event that Nikon PH held a couple of days ago at SM Mall of Asia. Not one or two, but three action cameras were launched and those are the KeyMission 80, KeyMission 170, and KeyMission 360.

The numbers on these three Nikon camera names indicate their field of view or how wide their respective lenses capture videos and photos. Most of all, they are rugged and can survive water, fall, and freeze.

Nikon KeyMission 80

Let's start off with the KeyMission 80 which is the entry-level of the pack. As the name implies, the KeyMission 80 offers 80-degree angle of view.  It features a 1.75-inch touchscreen panel that enables users to control settings and fucntions as well as playback captured content.

It's design is unlike any other action cameras around. In fact it is being marketed by Nikon as a wearable "lifelogging" camera.

It can be submerged into water as deep as 1 meter or 3.2 feet, thanks to its waterproof feature. Shockproof up to 6 feet and freezeproof up to 14-degrees Fahrenheit.

  • 1.75-inch touch screen display
  • 12MP CMOS Sensor and 25mm 80-degree field of view and f/2.0 lens

Nikon KeyMission 170

Second in line is the KeyMission 170 which as you can see sports form factor similar to the most action camera we know. Using this one, you will be able to capture up to 4K videos through its 8.3MP CMOS sensor and f2.8 lens. There is an LCD panel on the back that can be used to preview clips and for some controls.

Additionally, 170 is equipped with Electronic Vibration Reduction aka electronic stabilization feature to help users capture videos with less shakiness possible.

Water, shock, and freeze proofing are also present on this device with up to 33 feet, 6.6 feet and up to 14-degrees Fahrenheit, respectively. Also an optional underwater casing can be purchased which extends waterproof capability to up to 131feet.

Nikon KeyMission 360

The 360 obviously can record 360-degree videos. When it debuted at CES 2016, there was not so much details available except for it uses two cameras to achieve the 360 video recording capability. But at the launch, it was revealed that each of those cameras sports f2.0 aperture alongside 30MP CMOS sensor. Users of this camera will be able to capture moments in glorious 4K resolution or in 1080p format, and given that it has those monstrous numbers, it should be able to produce nothing but better videos compared to competition.

Although this uses two separate fish-eye cameras to record 360 videos, the stitching of clips to make it 360 is already done in-camera. That means, the clips are 360-ready as you capture them and no need for post-capture processing. Of course, stills are also possible using this device and it can produce 360-degree images with 30MP resolution. Modes are available as well such as Superlapse, Loop Movies, and Timelapse.

And most especially, the Nikon KeyMission 360 is tough. It is waterproof and can be submerged up to 30 meters or 98 feet, shockproof up to 6.6 feet and freezeproof up to 14-degrees Fahrenheit.

Specs and features:
  • Two 20MP CMOS sensors with f/2.0 lens
  • 360-degree field of view
  • Record 360 videos in 4K or 1080p
  • Capture photos in 30MP
  • Stereo microphone for better audio
  • Waterproof up to 98 feet
  • Shockproof up to 6.6 feet
  • Freezeproof up to 14-degree F
  • Php25,900
