I Can Now Do Livestreaming on My YouTube Mobile App

Early February of this year, YouTube has initially rolled out its latest feature in the mobile app version to some of its users. It was the livestreaming feature directly via the app, and it was initially made available to YouTube users with at least 10,000 subscribers. Then a couple weeks ago, it was expanded to even more users, from 10K it was downgraded to just 1,000 subscribers requirement. So technically today, all YouTubers with one thousand and up followers can now definitely do livestream on their channel right from their smartphones.

While the livestream feature on YouTube will eventually be released to everybody around the globe, users who have less than 999 subscribers on their channel would really need to wait a little longer before they can have this functionality on their channel as well without the need to meet the minimum 1K fan requirement. However, for some reason and even though I still don't have at least 1 thousand subs on my DugomPinoy YouTube channel, I can definitely see now that the "Go Live" feature already active on my account. If you are one of those users who have been waiting for this feature, but don't have enough followers yet, try to update your YouTube app now and maybe you will also see it activated.

Just be reminded that I am talking about the YouTube livestream function on mobile devices, desktops have been having this feature for ages now, even way before Facebook introduced its own FB Live thing. It's just that YouTube was not in a rush to make this feature also available to mobile users as soon as possible, until very recently.

So I tried to see how to start doing livestream on my YouTube mobile app, though I really did not go live since I was at home and had nothing to show to audience who would see it. But I realized that it's really easy and you can go live to the world in just a couple of taps on the screen.

As you can see in the first screenshot above, I now have three options available for uploading new video to my channel - 1. Get videos from the recorded ones in my gallery, 2. Record a new video through the camera icon on the left, and 3. Go Live.

Above is the next screen to be shown when you click on Go Live where you will be asked to put your desired title for the said livestream. By default, the front camera of the device is turned on and the livestream will be on Public which you can also change before hitting that "Go Live" button in the next screen which you can see in the third image below.

Unlike Facebook Live, YouTube will require you first to take a shot of your thumbnail for the livestream by simply smiling at the cropped square in the screen as seen above. Once you are set up with the thumbnail, you may also share the livestream to social medial sites like Facebook by clicking on the Share option on the screen, then hit Go Live button and you are good to go.

I am going to try doing a livestream in one of the events I will be attending in the future so that I can share with you my experience and some thoughts on this particular service by YouTube. And if you want to see if you now have the feature as well, simply try to update your YouTube app on Google Play or the App Store.
