Lazada Breaks its Own Sales Record Yet Again During This Year's Online Revolution


On November 11, 2017 (11.11), Lazada, kicked off this year's Online Revolution sale event which offered its millions of customers up to 95% off on its millions of items listed online across the Southeast Asian region. This gigantic annual sale event runs for a month and will end on December 12 (12.12).

As expected and as what has been happening since Lazada launched its very first online revolution a few years back, the eCommerce site keeps on breaking its own sales record year after year, both here in the Philippines and in other neighboring markets in the region.  Lazada claims they were able to rake in more than USD $125 million of Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) on 11.11 day alone, that translates to 171% year-over-year growth.

To give us more data to understand how big this sales figure is, Lazada said, over 6.5 million items were ordered online on November 11 across Southeast Asia from its wide variety of items of different categories. And about 70% of these products were ordered using mobile devices.

In the Philippines

Filipinos are also one of the big contributors in this success as more and more Pinoys are now embracing the convenience of online shopping experience especially from Lazada, thanks to the company's services like Cash on Delivery as one of the payment methods, as well as Free Shipping promo and No-Sign Up policy. On November 11 alone, Lazada Philippines generated hundreds of thousands of orders which translated to more than 550 million pesos in savings for Filipinos.

Among the local shoppers, Millennials, who are known to demand higher value, had the highest participation in this year's Online Revolution event. According to Lazada, over half of these customers were aged 32 years old and below. Most sold items for these shoppers included coffee, digital goods, makeup items, and mobile accessories. Other most purchased items on Nov 11 alone were diapers and tablets, about 19,000 to 20,000 in numbers as per Lazada.
