The battle for the hole punch cutout equipped smartphone has officially begun. A day following Huawei's announcement that the Nova 4 with the same in-display hole design holding the selfie camera is going to be launched on December 17, Samsung also revealed that they will be unveiling the Galaxy A8s smartphone on December 10.

These are the two companies for now racing to be the first ones to launch this new type of front panel design relating to the front camera. It appears, however, that Samsung was just waiting for Huawei to reveal their launch date for the Nova 4 before they announced theirs and its venue to be held a week earlier than Huawei's. The poster execution above, that Samsung shared on its Weibo account in China, also looks very similar to Huawei Nova 4's.

So it's a battle between a Nova and a Galaxy! That's cool. And I'm in for the ride!

The teaser image above shows the Galaxy A8s' front panel with extremely thin bezels and highlights the hole-punch cutout situated on the upper left part of the screen as the center of a galaxy with a caption on the display itself that says "Real Galaxy."

Apart from what we see in the image above, its launch date, and official name, the rest of the details about this Galaxy A8s is still unknown. However, according to rumors and previous leaks, the device will be powered by a Snapdragon 710 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and an internal storage of 128GB. Reports also suggest that we can expect this handset to offer 6.4-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

As for its cameras, rumors suggest it could be equipped with a 24MP+5MP combo, or even a triple-lens configuration, on its back and a selfie shooter with 24MP. Then there are also the 3400mAh battery, a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audiojack to come with it. But these are still unconfirmed reports so we really can't take every bit of it as the real deal until Samsung makes the official launch of the Galaxy A8s on December 10.

Stay tuned for more details.
