The More Affordable ASUS ZenFone Max M2 is Also Coming to the Philippines

Remember the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 that I had the chance to unbox last month? Well it has a smaller and more affordable brother called the ZenFone Max M2, and it is going to be released here in the Philippines as well this month to be priced at only Php8,995.

ASUS said that compared to its predecessor, the ZenFone Max M1, this M2 variant now has a bigger display (and has a notch as well), much faster and powerful processor, and much improved audio systems. It also has an all-new slim and compact design all encased in a premium metal body finish.

The display found on this ZenFone Max M2 measures 6.3-inch. Its screen resolution is still at 720p, just like the previous iteration but the screen-to-body ratio has been made bigger at 88% which is of course in addition to the larger screen size. And similar to the bigger sibling, it has a notch up its screen that houses the 8MP selfie camera, soft LED flash, earpiece, and proximity sensor.

Right at its heart is a 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 octa-core processor, a latest and first for any Zenfone devices around, according to ASUS. The company says that versus Snapdragon 626 processor, this new chip is capable of delivering "up to 40% higher CPU performance and 10% higher graphics performance." Accompanying this powerhouse are 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage that can be expanded via microSD card through its dedicated slot up to 2TB.

It would not be called a ZenFone Max if it was not for its massive battery pack. This latest "battery king" smartphone packs 4000mAh of battery boasting up to 33 days of life on 4G standby mode, 21 hours of video playback, and web browsing of up to 22 hours, ASUS claims. And being a member of the Max family, I assume this can still double as a powerbank to other devices via its Reverse Charging technology.

On the camera side of things, the ZenFone Max M2 is still equipped with dual rear camera technology where the primary shooter is at 13MP with f1.8 aperture and phase detection autofocus and the secondary 2MP lens used for depth sensing. There is also the LED flash on the back.

These rear cameras can record up to 4K video format. 1080p and 720p options are still available at 30fps. And similar to the ZenFone Max Pro M2, its video recording function now has the 3-axis electronic image stabilization feature for shake-free video clips.

As for the improved audio, the ASUS ZenFone Max M2 now uses a five-magnet speaker with a metal voice coil, the Taiwanese says, a major upgrade over the single-magnet speaker of the previous generation - that's driven by a powerful NXP low-distortion smart amplifier.
