ASUS ZenFone 6 With Flipping Dual Rear Cameras Now Official

At an event in Valencia, Spain on May 16, ASUS has formally launched its new smartphone offering to the world - meet the ZenFone 6 with dual flip camera system. Interestingly though, ASUS only launched one variant of the new smartphone whereas up until last year, we had at least three different variants in one launch. Perhaps more will be unveiled separately later this year, we don't know. But for now let's talk about this stunning ZenFone 6 device.

The ZenFone 6 sports brand new design language that is not some sort of a copy from another well-known smartphone brand. It is definitely the most sleek and stunning smartphone ASUS has ever made, both front and back. It's now got a notch-less full-screen display panel and on the back a glass panel housing its most unique offering - a flipping dual camera module.

This flipping rear camera, though not really the first of its kind on a smartphone, is actually the most innovative way to get rid of the unwanted notch on the display, at least for now. Not only that users will get to enjoy a true full-screen display on a smartphone, their selfies and videos of themselves will be captured on the phone's best camera lenses, just flip it forward when needed. Of course one of the concerns here will revolve around its durability, ASUS said this mechanism was tested more than 100,000 times or approximately 28 selfies per day for the next five years.

The primary lens on this camera implementation is equipped with 48MP powered by a Sony IMX586 sensor and a secondary camera at 13MP with Ultrawide lens. That will be this phone's front and rear cameras, perfect for content creation, especially for vloggers, selfie lovers and users who are into mobile photography. During the launch, ASUS did demo some of the things that this camera can do like taking a panorama image horizontally and vertically, which is very nice. ASUS is known to creating super camera-centric smartphones through its ZenFone series of smartphones, so we can expect this ZenFone 6 to offer camera qualities and some cool features and modes for the best possible mobile photography experience. For videos, it can record up to 4K at 60fps.

ASUS also added a "Smart Key" that is defaulted with Google Assistant but can be remapped with other functions such as for taking selfies and automatically launching the camera to go selfie mode, Do Not Disturb, take a screen shot and many others.

Powering this smartphone is the latest and most potent Snapdragon 855 processor with Adreno 640 GPU right out of the box. We still have an audiojack here which is really really good, no in-display fingerprint scanner and that's okay and it will be available in two color options, one in Midnight Black and another in Twilight Silver. Twilight Silver looks pretty good though. And then of course its battery, that is surprisingly huge at 5000mAh size.
