The New Nokia 7.2 with 48MP Triple-Rear Camera is now in the Philippines Priced at Php15,990

The latest and first smartphone offering from HMD Global that combines a 48MP triple-rear camera setup with PureDisplay technology, the Nokia 7.2, is now finally launched in the Philippines after being initially unveiled at this year's IFA tech expo in Berlin just last month. In addition to the ZEISS Optics-equipped rear and front cameras that promise to deliver stunning images, the phone also features always-on HDR display with timeless Nordic design to ensure that it's lightweight and robust at the same time.

The Nokia 7.2 is being launched in the local market with #GoAndCreate hashtag which promises to "offer fans advanced tools to express their creativity and individuality," thanks to the ZEISS Optics, powerful AI imaging, PureDisplay technology, and a 3500mAh battery pack that HMD Global claims to last up to two days.

On the front panel, the Nokia 7.2 may offer design language that's very common in midgrange devices of today mainly because of the waterdrop notch that houses the 20MP selfie camera. But turn it around and there you will see how unique this device is from the competition. Sure it does sport circular camera module that you might think is similar to other brand's rear camera design, but we have to remember that the Nokia 1020 made it first back in the day. Now as for the colorway implementation, it's nice to see that in the world of gradient and glossy finishes, HMD Global has gone matte with the Nokia 7.2. Yes it's matte finish in either Charcoal Black or Cyan Green colors, which means this side of the phone is not going to be fingerprint and smudge-hungry of a surface.

Of course aside from the design, HMD Global is also banking on so many things about this smartphone - camera performance, durability, and security. The company said that this device is their first ever smartphone offering to feature a triple-sensor camera setup with Quad Pixel technology which basically combines four pixels into one to capture smallest details and create stunning images in all situations including night time or in low light scenes. Like many other smartphones of today, the Nokia 7.2 also has Night mode in the camera. As for durability, the company talks about "Nordic design" that is crafted from polymer composite which is twice as strong as polycarbonate material and half the weight of aluminum, referring to its chassis. Its back and front panels are both protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. So yes the Nokia 7.2 is super strong and rigid. And last but not the least is the security part where like other HMD Global-made Nokia smartphones, this device is also part of the Android One program with Google. This means, users are guaranteed to receive monthly security updates for three years and two major software updates for the next two years, so yes this smartphone is Android 10 and Android 11 ready.

The Nokia 7.2 boasts a 6.3-inch PureView display with Full HD+ resolution. PureView or PureDisplay technology is like the company's version of AMOLED panel which offers much better display quality by upscaling videos and content to HDR quality in real with up to a billion shades of color, higher contrast and expanded dynamic range. Underneath the phone is an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor. The model we are getting is with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage that is expandable via microSD card.

On the left side of the device are the triple SIM slot, and a dedicated Google Assistant button that's currently unmappable. On the right are the volume rocker and power/lock key that has a built-in notification light. I like that part though, something new to a Nokia phone. And thankfully it sports a USB Type-C port as well as the 3.5mm audiojack with the mic and speakers down at the bottom.

ZEISS Optics-equipped cameras. The camera department is one of the most exciting parts of the Nokia 7.2 package. The 48MP main camera sensor is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide camera and a third 5MP sensor for depth sensing. And together with the 20MP front camera, these lenses are all equipped with ZEISS and AI camera technologies. This time though, HMD Global is introducing three new ZEISS bokeh styles - ZEISS Modern, ZEISS Swirl, and ZEISS Smooth modes - which allow users to re-create how the legendary ZEISS lenses produced high visual impact and signature blur with the portrait mode. I only had very limited time with the Nokia 7.2 at the event, but based on my short experience with the phone's camera performance, I was very impressed with the photos and videos I was able to take with the device. And oh, the unique Bothie feature is returning with the Nokia 7.2 which allows users to use both the rear and front cameras at the same time for taking photos and recording videos.
