Nokia 8.3 5G with PureView quad camera and ZEISS optics launched

HMD Global's brand new Nokia flagship smartphone

In addition to the classic Nokia 5310 feature phone and the new Nokia 5.3 midrange smartphone being officially launched by HMD Global very recently, the company also unveiled its flagship smartphone offering for the year, meet the Nokia 8.3 with 5G capability. This device will support both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks that are being rolled out by telcos around the globe.

Encased in an aluminum chassis and Gorilla Glass back panel is a 6.81-inch device that packs Full HD+ display resolution. Thankfully, it does not have waterdrop notch. Instead, HMD Global opted for a punch-hole cutout located at the upper left corner of the screen. The punch hole holds the ZEISS-certified 24MP self camera. The front panel looks stunning, the bezels appear to be extremely thin and the edges looks to sport curved glass panels as well.

On the back of the Nokia 8.3 are PureView quad camera setup with ZEISS optics housed in a circular camera module. The primary camera offers 64MP sensor and is accompanied by ultra-wide, depth, and macro sensors. All lenses are ZEISS certified.

Back finish inspired by the northern lights

The rear cover, according to HMD Global is made with Corning Gorilla Glass material which has been treated to a metallization process. This made the surface produces Aurora-like light reflections. The Nokia 8.3 will only come in one colorway and it's called Polar Night.

For its battery, a 4500mAh battery pack comes in the device with support to 18W fast charging. The phone has fingerprint scanner but it's not located on the back or in the display panel, rather it's being combined with the power key on the side.

Right out of the box, the Nokia 8.3 5G will be running on Android 10. And since this is also part of the Android One program by HMD Global and Google, users will be guaranteed to receive monthly security updates for 3 years and software upgrades for 2 years. This means, at least, Android 11 and 12 upgrades are coming to this phone one they become available.

Now for the pricing, it starts at 599 euros or about Php33,000. But that's when directly converting it to Philippine peso. Hopefully this device will also be released in the Philippines for a much competitive price even though we still don't have 5G connectivity available here.
