The OPPO Watch, announced as promised

Alongside the official launch of the OPPO Find X2 Pro (read more here) in Barcelona, Spain, the Chinese smartphone maker also launched, as promised, its first ever smartwatch offering. The wearable is simply called the OPPO Watch. It is a premium smartwatch offering and while it looks so familiar it has some other of its own features and specs to offer besides its looks.

For starters, the OPPO Watch sports a curved AMOLED display panel with 326 pixels per inch (ppi) and the display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. That should be a good news for users who are looking to see a best Apple Watch alternative that's much cheaper in price, I hope. The OPPO Watch will be available in two face sizes, 1.6" and 1.9".

Right inside the Watch is a Snapdragon Wear 2500 processor with its Apollo 3 co-processor. Native storage it pegged at 8GB. Of course it runs on OPPO's very own Android-based ColorOS Watch user interface. While it does not have its own SIM slot to take advantage of cellular connectivity, it does have eSIM feature. So if your carrier supports this tech, it can operate on its own. Speaking of connectivity and compatibility, the OPPO Watch can only be paired with Android devices Marshmallow 6 or later. In addition, it supports NFC and Bluetooth 4.2. There is also a built-in GPS.

VOOC fast charging on a smartwatch

Battery wise, OPPO did not reveal how big the battery pack is but promises it to last up to 40 hours on a single charge with normal use. With the power saving mode turned on, it can last even longer, up to 21 days, OPPO shared. The company also added a VOOC flash charge to the Watch and claims can charge the device up to 50% life in just 17 minutes.

The OPPO Watch has all the smartwatch can offer such as activity and fitness trackers, sleep and heart rate monitors to name a few. It also got an electrocardiogram or ECG functionality, something that many smartwatch is still lacking. For water resistance capability, the Watch is 5ATM rated. That's up to 50 meters deep resistance.

At the moment, the OPPO Watch will debut in China on March 24 for CNY 1,499 (Php10,900) for the 41mm variant and CNY 1,999 (Php14,600) for the 46mm model. There is no word yet about its international release.
