Facebook Tests a $1 Messaging Service

Facebook is surely extracting more ways to generate additional earnings. Within this week I just read a news about Facebook cooking up "Video Ads" to be seen or displayed randomly within our news feed  And just recently through a blog post from the social networking giant, they announced that they are testing another feature with some chosen few users in the US which lets a sender slip a message to another Facebook user's inbox who are outside of their circle of friends for a price of $1.

For example, it could be used to send a message to a speaker at an event but are not friends with, of if you want to message someone about a job opportunity, you can use this feature to reach their inbox. Facebook added.

Facebook says with this new fee-based messaging service it guarantees someone's message to reach recipient's inbox rather than the mostly-ignored folder called "other". They also added that putting a charge for this service discourages spammers.

To me, that $1 per message is quite expensive especially for countries like the Philippines, and I think even for some who are living in the United States. So if this feature reaches our online shore, I will never use it unless of course the message is very important.

What about you? What can you say about this latest update from the largest social networking site that has a user base of more than 1 billion across the world.
