Google Announces Nexus 5, Now on Google Play

Finally after countless leaked photos and information about the Nexus 5 smartphone, Google has finally and officially announced it and is now available on Google Play for $349. Just like previous Nexus devices, this one is an unlocked phone and is running on Google's newest Android operating system called Kitkat. Take note, that is the original version of Android Kitkat meaning it's pure Android without the added custom UI of any smartphone manufacturer.

The Googe Nexus 5, which is manufactured by LG, bears high-end technical specs that we see in many of today's flagship smartphones. First of those is the massive 5-inch 1080p Full HD IPS display, that's 1920x1080 resolution and is equivalent to 445ppi (pixel per inch). Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects that display. The processor is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip, with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Users can get the Nexus 5 in black or in white with selections of 16GB and 32GB storage space. Of course the 4G-LTE support is supported by this new Nexus device which is now a one of the top requirements for selling smartphones to the market. On the rear side of the handset, users will get a 8MP camera with optical image stabilization plus the front one with 1.3MP. And of course the 2,300mAh battery which according to Nexus 5 Google Play page should last up to 17 hours(talk time). For WiFi and LTE internet usage, that is going to be up to 8 and 7 hours respectively.

The LG-made Google Nexus 5 is now available on Google Play store in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea. The 16GB version is for $349 while the 32GB one costs $399. People in the US can also buy the device at Best Buy, Amazon and Radio Shack.  As per carriers support, all AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint customers will be able to use the Android smartphone under their respective networks. Verizon? not for now.

Aside from the new Android 4.4 Kitkat, one of the other big and smart things Google brings to the Nexus 5 is its voice-command feature. Simply say "OK Google" and you will be able to command the phone to send a text message for you, start a voice serach, get directions or even find photos, the Nexus 5 will do it for you just say it. Plus many other features. If you can recall, this functionality was first announced to be made available in Moto X which is also now owned by Google. However, in the Moto X a user must say "OK Google Now" to activate the touch-less control system.

On Google's official blog, it said that the current-Nexus 5-exclusive Android 4.4 Kitkat OS will soon be coming to other Nexus devices such as the Nexus 4, 7 and 10. And also to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Editions.
